Jesus Begins His Public Ministry
When Jesus was about 30 years, He began the work His Father sent Him to do on earth. Jesus and His disciples were invited to a wedding that His mother was helping at. Weddings were usually celebrated over several days with lots food and drinks being served. At some point they ran out of wine to drink Mary told Jesus what was happening and then she told the servants to do whatever Jesus said to do. Jesus told them to gather 6 large jars and fill them with water. He then told them to take some to the master of the wedding feast to try. The master said that this wine was so much better than the first wine that was served. This was the first miracle that Jesus had performed. Jesus turned the water into wine by His wonderful power. This was a miracle - something only God can do! (John 2:1-11)
Soon after this, Jesus and His disciples went to Jerusalem to celebrate the Feast of the Passover. The temple was very crowded and busy with people coming to offer their sacrifices. There were also merchants and money changers within the temple courts. Jesus made a whip out of cords and drove all of the animals out and scattered the coins of the money changers as He turned over their tables. Jesus said to them, "Get these out of here! How dare you turn my Father's house into a market!". The Jews were very angry with Jesus and asked Him by what authority He did these things. Jesus told them, "Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in 3 days.". The people were confused because they thought He was talking about the temple building. Jesus was really speaking about His own body and was thinking about the time when the Jews would put Him to death and He would rise again in 3 days. Many people saw the miracles that Jesus was doing and believed in Him. (John 2:12-23; Matthew 21:12-13)
Just For You:
Someday Jesus will rule as King over all the earth. When we belong to Jesus He desires to rule in our hearts and lives as our King. Jesus showed His power when He changed the water into wine and He has the authority and power to help us obey Him.
Memory Verse:
"He is Lord of lords, and King of kings - and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers" Revelation 17:14
